Blackburn Cathedral, whilst one of England's newest cathedrals, it is also one of the country's oldest places of Christian worship. In the Summer of 2016, it completed a major £8m extension.
The development included the first cloisters to be built at a UK cathedral for over 500 years, together with new residences for clergy and staff, and a hall of residence for organ and choral scholars. The extension also features a library, conference centre, offices, parking, and the new Temple Gallery. Finally, it also boasts the new public gardens, and it was here where we at The Grass Factory came in.
The main landscaping contractor for the scheme, Barton Grange Landscapes, asked The Grass Factory to supply and install a realistic-looking artificial grass. It would need to provide a low-maintenance solution to the newly landscapes gardens within this prestigious new development.
Barton Grange's own landscape team undertook all the base preparation ready for the grass to be fitted. The Grass Factory team installed a natural-looking lawn using artificial grass with 38mm pile height.
The work produced an attractive, all-weather area that demands much less maintenance than a conventional lawn and therefore incurs lower ongoing costs. It is now used by the cathedral's residents all-year round.
